Incorporated in 1887, Eatonville was one of the first self-governing
all-black municipalities in the US.
Eatonville was the subject of two 1930s novels by Harlem Renaissance author, and town resident, Zora Neale Hurston; "Mules and Men" and "Their Eyes Were Watching God" which tells the story of the town's founding.
